Why cats are great content (we're serious)
You can’t open YouTube or Instagram these days without being hit with different cat videos— cats that are best friends with unusual animals, cats and dogs, cats being funny, cats being sassy, cats acting cray— the list doesn’t end.
It’s not just that cats are just super cute furry little jerks. It’s deeper than that. Cats are a prime example of how we interact with media and the internet today.
Many will suggest that cat videos are simply a form of procrastination or junk food for the mind. The truth is, however, that cat content can decrease negative feelings and boost positive emotions in viewers. One researcher went as far as to argue that cats possess a unique "unselfconsciousness,” a rarity in an age of hyper-surveillance.
It’s true. Cats are a no-bullshit animal. They don’t give a flying flip if you want to pet them or where they should be. They do them. Period. Could it be that we all want to be blatantly and wonderfully 100% ourselves? Not worrying about how we look, what we’re supposed to say, act, or feel?
Cats are great content because they’re original. They are not trying to fit in with what their (cat) industry is doing. Norms or language do not limit them. And neither should your content. Open up Instagram today, and it is like being slapped in the face with bad content. In a sea of noise, be like the cats. Unapologetically your brand. Your values. Your voice.
